Mrs. Iowa, also known as Taryn Schuyler of Johnston, is back from the Mrs. America beauty pageant in Tucson, where she crammed several years of living into 16 days.
True, the 30-year-old wife and mother of two failed to reach her big goal - cracking the top 10.
But there still were many highlights and even a lowlight or two. You might be able to catch some of them on the We TV network, which will broadcast a tape of the contest at 6 p.m. Sept. 21. The following are just a few:
- Schuyler made national news by yanking a rattlesnake fang out of Mrs. Tennessee's foot, for which she won a Mrs. America "valiance" award.
A licensed practical nurse, Schuyler knew exactly what to do when she heard Mrs. Tennessee's screams.
She took a look, pulled out the fang, monitored the victim's heart rate, kept the victim calm and poured cold water on the wound. Mrs. Tennessee went on to become first runner-up.
"She said the pain was worse than childbirth," Schuyler reported.
