Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson and Symantec Partner to Promote Internet Safety
Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson and Symantec’s Internet Safety Advocate, Marian Merritt, Educate Parents and Kids Through Symantec’s Connected and Protected Child Safety Initiative
Symantec, the leader in Internet security, today launched the company’s nationwide “Connected and Protected Child Safety Initiative” in partnership with Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson, whose personal platform is protecting children online. Efforts for the initiative commence this June, which has been declared “National Internet Safety Month” by the U.S. Senate.

FROM the Beauties of America Blog: Judging the 2007 Miss Ohio Scholarship Program for Miss America!
The Miss Ohio Scholarship Program was held in Mansfield, Ohio from June 11th to June 17th, and I was honored to be part of the program this year as a judge. I served on a six-judge panel with very distinguished, wonderful people from around the country. 21 fabulous women were vying for the title of Miss Ohio 2007 and a chance to compete for the title of Miss America 2008 in Las Vegas. The ladies competed over 3 nights of preliminaries before we got to the top 10. My fellow judges included Troy McCarty (an international ballet choreographer, pilates master, and Broadway performer), Tom Faircloth (a long-standing judge in the Miss America organization, active Board member for the Miss Georgia Scholarship Program and he actually judged the Miss America pageant in 1992!), Tana Carli Domino (Miss Ohio 1979 and 1st runner up to Miss America and she was the Grand Talent winner), Dana Christopher (Miss North Carolina 1994 and a Talent winner at Miss America - an amazing opera singer), and Oz Roberts (President of the Miss Georgia Scholarship Program for 12 years and 2nd Vice President of Productions/Promotions for AFLAC plus he's the provider of the awesome photos I'm including with this post!). Our week was filled with excitement inside the theatre with the beautiful contestants and outside the theatre too - dinners with great sponsor restaurants every night, a tour of the Mansfield Reformatory where Shawshank Redemption, Airforce One, Tango and Cash and other famous movies were filmed, a taping of the judges intros at the historical carousel in Mansfield for the final night show, and much more!! The Miss Ohio Board and the City of Mansfield generously rolled out the red carpet for us. My week as a judge brought back many wonderful memories from my own Miss Ohio days when I competed on that very same stage in 1989 as a contestant. Our new Miss Ohio 2007 is Roberta Camp.

MISS AMERICA 2007 LAUREN NELSON SINGS NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
On Sunday, June 17, Lauren Nelson sang the national anthem before the start of the United States Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in front of the largest crowd of her performing career.
The race was televised on FOX and was also was broadcast internationally. Lauren was excited to be performing at her first race, especially in Indianapolis and in front of such a large crowd. "Miss America is an American tradition and so is the Grand Prix. I think it’s a perfect match, a perfect relationship," said Lauren before the event.
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. Coastweek - - Beautiful and charming Racheal Smith, current 'Miss USA' 2007 has taken time out from her busy schedule in America to perform a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 'Project Sunshine' murals in the Lobby of Bomu Medical Centre, Mombasa.
The ceremony was attended by 'Project Sunshine' Founder Joseph Weilgus, who is visiting Kenya with 'Project Sunshine' staff and volunteers based in New York, U.S.A.

Born in Panama, but raised in Clarksville, Tenn., the 21-year-old daughter of dual Army parents hadn’t been to the nation’s capital since a school field trip she took in the seventh grade.
“I already have a much better appreciation for our nation’s capital … I know I’ll leave here immensely changed,” she said. “What impressed me most about the Soldiers I had lunch with today was the enthusiasm and pride they have in our country. It’s contagious because I, too, am a representative of our country, and they passed some of their strength and advice to me.” More at the Source

Without a crystal ball, no.
Is it possible to predict the next winner of the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant?
"Since the pageant began in Jackson in 1953, there have been more winners from West and Middle Tennessee," Alford said.
For the last 10 years, Miss Tennessee has been a singer, dancer or musician.
"Vocal singing is our most popular talent," Alford said.
The most unusual talent for a contestant was in 1957 when Miss Tennessee Amanda Whitman, of Nashville, jumped on a trampoline.
A trend that hasn't been broken in years is the age of the young lady who receives the crown.
"We haven't had a teenager to win since 1968," Alford said. "That was Miss Kingsport, Brenda Seal. She was 19, and she finished in the top 10 in the Miss America pageant."

Three beauty queens living under one roof is an equation for some intense drama.
Donald Trump and MTV have teamed-up to develop Pageant Place, a new reality series that will follow current Miss Universe Riyo Mori, Miss USA Rachel Smith and Miss Teen USA Katie Blair as they live together in a New York City apartment and represent their different crowns, Daily Variety reported Wednesday.
The three women coexisting together isn't new, as they normally live together during their yearlong reign. However this will be the first time viewers will be invited inside to witness some royal cattiness.
"What's great is that we're not bringing them together -- we're tapping into a real situation," MTV programming head Tony DiSanto told Variety.

On Saturday, June 23rd, the city of Galesburg, ND celebrated 125 remarkable years of history (1882 -2007).
Galesburg is located an easy 1 hour drive North West of Fargo, ND and has roughly 150 permanent residents.
Businesses and community members of nearby cities joined in the Galesburg festivities by participating in the Galesburg Celebration Parade.
Jo-Anna and Beauties of America were entry #82 of 168 total entries in this incredible parade!
Jo-Anna's Corvette was driven by Justin Halvorson, a native of Galesburg & a full time employee of John Deere Industries and a volunteer firefighter for the Galesburg Fire Dept.
Following the parade, Justin and Jo-Anna posed for a photo in the 94 degree weather.
Many thanks to the citizens of Galesburg, especially Virginia Satrom, for inviting Jo-Anna & BOA to participate in their special 125th Anniversary Celebration!

Post Comment HOWELL — Acting and performing are second nature to Amy Polumbo of Howell, but remembering to be herself was the tougher challenge for the 22-year-old crowned the state's newest Miss New Jersey on Saturday.
The theater-performance major sailed through singing "Astonishing" from the Broadway musical "Little Women" in the pageant's talent competition. But she said she tripped onstage during the evening gown competition and had a major case of nerves about the pageant's interview and swimsuit competitions.
"The first night I was nervous, but after I was called for Top 10 I just said to myself, "This is funny, and you have to have fun with it,' " said Polumbo, a senior at Wagner College on Staten Island. "The butt glue in the bathing suits, all the preparation — you can't take everything in life too seriously.
"I really felt that throughout this whole process no matter what happened . . . I wanted to show the judges who I really am," said the 120-pound, 5-foot, 4-inch blonde.
Apparently judges liked what they got to know of Polumbo, who campaigned for protecting children from Internet predators and said she loves pizza and ice cream as much as the next guy.
The self-proclaimed "proud Jersey girl" beat 27 contestants for her crown, passed on by reigning Miss New Jersey Georgine DiMaria at the Music Pier in Ocean City.

Miss Louisiana looks ahead
It took Amanda Joseph four tries to become Miss Louisiana, but the LSU student from Pineville woke up Sunday with her sights set on the 2008 Miss America pageant and on promoting her platform of art education for underprivileged children statewide.
“As Miss America, you will not always be competing in swimsuit and talent, but they are always speaking,” she said. “Speaking is something that I definitely want to work on.”
Joseph will represent the state at the Miss America pageant early next year in Las Vegas. Until then, she will work on preparing for the event and promoting her agenda of arts education and working with service organizations for children including The Children’s Miracle Network; Right Choices, Right Now and Louisiana Cares About Children.

MANSFIELD, Ohio -- Roberta Camp of Grove City was crowned Miss Ohio 2007 on Saturday night and will represent the state in the Miss America pageant.Camp, 23, competed as Miss Maple City with the platform of changing the world by building character.She received a $10,000 scholarship from Newman Technology. Ashley Layfield will promote well-rounded education through the performing arts
MINUTES before Friday night's Miss Hawaii pageant started, all 13 girls backstage shared their worst fear: tripping and falling.
Then just as the pageant started, it happened to 21-year-old Ashley Layfield. She took her first two steps on stage and tripped.
But there would be no tearful breakdown, no startled deer-in-the-headlights look and no jittery responses from a woman who's trained all her life to be light on her feet.
"I'm a dancer and I tried to make it look like part of the choreography, but it obviously wasn't," she said. "From then on, I told myself the worst possible thing happened so just have fun."
Possibly because she felt more at ease, Layfield won the pageant and was crowned Miss Hawaii 2007.
She will be competing as Hawaii's representative to the Miss America 2008 pageant in January.

Oakland County woman snags Miss Michigan crown

mmiller@muskegonchronicle.com Kirsten Haglund is a Miss Michigan newcomer -- of sorts.
Haglund, who won the crown on her first try Saturday, is the granddaughter of the 1944 titleholder.
Her grandmother, Iora Hunt, was in the audience and watched a shocked and humble Haglund take her winning walk before a crowd of about 1,400 in the Frauenthal Theater. Haglund, 18, advanced to the state pageant after winning Miss Oakland County. She will take a break from her studies at University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music to serve as Miss Michigan for the year and compete at the 2008 Miss America Pageant.

BEIJING: The 57th Miss World beauty pageant will be held at Sanya, a tropical coastal city in the southern island province of Hainan, on December one, the organisers said.
The pageant has returned to the resort city, after a gap of two years, which played host to the competition from 2003 to 2005.
Chairperson of the Miss World Organization, Julia Morley said her organisation and the vice mayor of Sanya, Li Boqing signed an agreement on Friday.
