It started with an idea two years ago by 2007 Miss Georgia Teen USA Jena Sims to give children fighting cancer an opportunity to experience being part of a pageant that allows them to be celebrated by family friends. Since then, the prince and princess of Hope Pageant has taken to the road with stops in Georgia, New York, Michigan and Wisconsin.
The latest stop was Pomona as Casa Colina played host to the California version of the pageant on Tuesday afternoon inside the medical facility’s Tamkin Education Center.
Nearly 20 boys and girls from Casa Colina’s Children Services, which serves children with acquired and developmental disabilities, participated in the pageant where each child had a moment to shine in the spotlight. The ages of the children ranged from 11 months to 11 years, with each one presented with an award and a certificate of participation along with a crown or tiara at the end of the pageant.
“I wanted everyone to have their time to shine and be a winner,” Jenna said. “Everybody left as a winner.”
