When Miss Washington Kristen Eddings recalls her experience at the Miss America Pageant, the word “blessing” comes to mind.

“I thought everything was a blessing, I was reminded of that over and over again,” she said. “Making the Top 10, I can’t even describe how I feel about that.”

On the morning of the national competition, she says she was calm and had a feeling that she would place in the semifinals. As she stood on the stage waiting for her name to be called (she was the ninth contestant out of 10 to be named), she says she began to second-guess herself.

“As they went on, I began to distrust my own feelings ... You start to question ‘Am I in the Top 10?’” she said. “But you can never give up hope ’til the very end.”

Although she was not named Miss America, Eddings has confidence in Miss Oklahoma Lauren Nelson, the 20-year-old recipient of the crown.

“You kind of get an idea of everyone there,” she said. “I think she’ll do a wonderful job of representing everyone. We all support her and think she’s going to do a good job.”

As for her future, Eddings says “my life picks back up again.”

She will dive right back into appearances and will continue to speak at a number of rotaries throughout the state. She also hopes to contribute as much as she can to the incoming Miss Washington, who will be crowned in July.
