On the road to Miss America

MARTINSBURG — Her body is toned and ready for the swimsuit competition. Her gown is a one-of-a-kind creation that she had a hand in designing. Her voice is ready to belt out “Black Velvet” after practice sessions with the karaoke machine in her kitchen. And her mind is filled with current events and social issues that the judges may ask about during the nerve-racking interview segment.

Miss West Virginia Tiffany Lawrence is as ready as she can be for the upcoming Miss America competition. The 24-year-old Shepherdstown native leaves Friday for 10 days in Las Vegas. This is the second year the competition has been held outside Atlantic City, N.J.
