The 2007 Miss America Pageant opens today in Las Vegas with three days of preliminary competition leading to Monday's finals at the Aladdin Resort in Las Vegas.
Kristin Eddy, a 22-year-old from Silverdale, represents Washington. Her vocal talents helped propel her to the state title and she'll sing the same song, "For Once in My Life," in Miss America preliminary competition Saturday.
Quirky tidbits are listed on the biographical profiles of each contestant. An interesting fact about Eddy is one of her hobbies is shopping for used books because she "loves to read the notes others leave in the margins." Her favorite Web site is lonelyplanet.com and her secret dream is to live in a lighthouse or on an isolated island.
Heavy baggage
Some contestants arrive for the Miss America Pageant more prepared than others.
Miss Mississippi Taryn Foshee arrived this week with 10 pieces of luggage, including her own exercise mat and weights and a humidifier.
Miss Georgia Amanda Kozak packed nine pieces of luggage while Janice Allen, Miss Colorado, should make a fashion statement with her feet. She brought 25 pairs of shoes.
Clark County delegation
More than 160 people from Washington are expected to attend the pageant, including Vancouver's Nichola Reynolds, executive director for the Miss Clark County Scholarship Organization, and her husband, Wayne Reynolds.
Also arriving this weekend are Miss Clark County Rachel Kirschenmann and Miss Greater Vancouver first runner-up Heather Laible.
