The cause behind the crown

Betsy Uschkrat might want to put on an evening gown and a tiara, then hear her name called as the next Miss America, but she's not looking for the royal treatment. She's in it to make an impact.

This 24 year-old IU graduate student, who claimed the Miss Indiana title just months after being named Miss IU last February, can tell you exactly who Miss America is: an outstanding positive role model for young women.

"I have the chance to live my dream of making a difference and become a national role model," she said. "And I'm in the best shape of my life."

Uschkrat lit up the room as well as the stage Sunday, Jan. 7 during a send-off party held in her honor.
