Heidi Ekstrom, a 23-year-old Columbia College graduate and Mundelein High School alumna, captured the title of Miss Illinois on July 29 and will compete in the Miss America pageant in January.
"This is the fourth year I've competed in the Miss Illinois pageant," said Ekstrom. "I was initially interested in doing it for the scholarship money, and my mom had done it when she was my age and was a local title holder - Miss Crossroads - in 1977."
