Miss Good Ole Days a piece of Americana

Published August 12, 2006

HITCHCOCK — In her day, Hitchcock’s Miss Good Ole Days pageant wasn’t an elaborate production.

“Pretty much all we did was walk on stage in our bathing suits,” said Renee Bolton Allen, who in 1972 was crowned the first Miss Good Ole Days. “I don’t remember if they even asked us any questions. We were in those bathing suits and didn’t want to stay up there (on stage) that long.”

The title is up for grabs again today when the 35th Miss Good Ole Days will be crowned.

The competition itself has come a long way since Allen first walked across the stage in her pink, two-piece suit.

It is also one of the few festival-related pageants that remain in the county.
