THERE were tears, tiaras and tantrums surrounding Australia's embattled Miss Universe entrant Erin McNaught yesterday, as she finally jetted off for the pageant's LA finals.
As the "porn storm" which threatened to strip her of the local title continued, a tearful McNaught was sent on her way in style.
Showing the strain of the topless pic scandal, the Gold Coast 24-year-old burst into tears as she flew out to join the 80-strong field in this year's Miss Universe contest.
With her place in the final only confirmed by US officials last weekend, "McNaughty" spent her last hours in Sydney frocking up for the big gig at designer Jayson Brunsdon's Strand Arcade salon (pictured).
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Australia organisers are considering legal action over an alleged smear campaign of this year's pageant.
The pageant's reputation was further marred yesterday by claims of vote-fixing and ulterior motives on the part of several judges, with some thought to have favoured contestants from their home states.
