A Courageous Beauty Interview: 2009 Beauties of America 50's-Debra Gilmour

Angie: How did you learn about various pageants?
Debra: I first saw an ad in a magazine with Mrs. America's picture in it. That piqued my interest as I had not been aware of pageants for women aside from Miss America and Miss USA.
Angie: What titles have you held?
Debra: I have held both competitively won and at large titles.  My first title was won in 1988, where I was crowned Mrs. Oregon America.  In 1989 I was selected to represent Oregon at-large as Mrs. Oregon USA International in 1989.  In 2007 I held the at large title of Mrs. Scotland International (my husband and I own property in Scotland where his father was born).  In 2008 I competed for and won the title Mrs. Oregon International.  In 2009 I held the Beauties of America at large title of Oregon's 50s, then competed for and won the national title of 2009 Beauties of America's 50s.

Gearing up for another beauty pageant, Tami Farrell was spotted posing poolside just ahead of the 2010 Preliminaries held at the Riviera Resort and Spa Hotel in Palm Springs, CA.

Ms Farrell won first runner-up last year and was later awarded the title Miss California USA when former pageant winner Carrie Prejean lost her crown amidst a firestorm of controvery.

The pageant winner will advance to the Miss USA pageant, the winner of which competes in the Miss Universe pageant.

Carrie Prejean the Hot Topic at Miss California USA Pageant

clipped from www.eonline.com

Carrie Prejean may have been out of sight at Sunday's Miss California USA pageant—but she definitely was not out of mind.

The annual pageant, held at Agua Caliente Resort and Casino in Rancho Mirage, was full of overt digs at the controversial beauty queen. Donald Trump, the owner of Miss Universe, even got in on the action, appearing via video feed to introduce the interview portion of the show.

"Get ready for some really tough questions...and as time has proven, they get us in a lot of trouble," he promised.

Host Chris Jacobs also contributed a few cracks about Prejean, saying that one lucky girl would win the chance to "become TMZ's new favorite topic" and "give Larry King something inappropriate to talk about." He also referenced her solo sex-tape scandal, joking that a producer wanted to call Miss Photogenic "the Carrie Prejean award."

Moakler also said she hopes Prejean's political and personal predicaments can be a lesson to other pageant contestants.

Nicole Johnson Quietly Named Miss California

The Miss California USA pageant came and went with nary a gay marriage controversy last night.

However, the winner of the 2010 crown actually does have a celebrity gossip connection: Nicole Johnson was romantically linked to Michael Phelps in October 2008.

Now, the brunette beauty from Ventura County can make news on her own. She follows Carrie Prejean as the state's title-holder, though that attention-starved author was eventually stripped of the crown.

“I think it was my presentation,” Johnson said, when asked why she won. “I was very confident on the stage, and I stood out in a red gown. I think maybe that was it.”

Brazilian is Miss Earth 2009

MANILA, Philippines—Brazil thwarted the Philippines’ attempt to win a back-to-back victory in the Miss Earth beauty pageant held at Boracay Ecovillage Convention Center on the island of Boracay Sunday night.

Brazil’s Larissa Ramos bested 78 other contestants, including hometown bet Sandra Inez Seifert. She took home the $20,000 prize and the distinction of being the first woman to receive the newly designed crown valued at $100,000. Last year’s winner, the Philippines’ Karla Paula Henry, gave her a tight embrace before relinquishing the title.

Ramos is the second Brazilian to be proclaimed Miss Earth, the first one being Priscilla Meirelles, who chaired the pageant’s panel of judges.

Giving the best gift this Christmas

The Christmas season is upon us and with all the hustling and bustling that is done, blood storage levels greatly decrease.
On average, we spend more than 8 hours shopping for the perfect gift, countless hours cooking the family favorites, and even more hours decorating our homes. Just think, in that span of time, in just 1 hour, you could save 2 lives. What could be a better Christmas present than that? It won't be returned, it will be a perfect fit, it will be thought of each day forward on every day - that's a true gift of life.
I challenge you to take 1 hour of your time - away from shopping, away from baking, away from decorating, and save 2 lives. You will feel amazing knowing that you just made someone's Christmas a little brighter!

A Courageous Beauty Interview: Mrs. Midwest International 2009 -Randa Allen

Angie: I was impressed when I first met Randa, but something she did left me with a lifetime memory. Back stage, I had a couple of odd moments when everything seemed to go wrong. My feet were hurting so I leaned against something to rest. It was a very large ladder. It slipped and almost took Randa out! I was so upset that I began to stress. I had no intention of causing her harm or fear prior to going on stage and I almost went down with the ladder too.

Angie: How did you learn about various pageants?
Randa: I first became aware of pageants as a little girl watching the Miss America pageant.  Later while in junior high I had a subscription to Teen magazine and one day saw an ad for the Miss Illinois Teen USA pageant.  I asked my Mom if I could enter and she gave me permission.  Neither of us knew what we were in for as we embarked on this journey.
